First edition. 224pp. Hawley Harvey Crippen (1862-1910), commonly known as Dr. Crippen, was an American homeopath, ear and eye specialist and medicine dispenser who was hanged in Pentonville Prison, London, for the murder of his second wife, Cora Henrietta Crippen. He was the first criminal to be captured with the aid of wireless telegraphy. This biography is part of the publisher's "The Rogues Gallery" series - a series of life stories of notorious men and women told in such a way as to present their lives as a whole. The book is bound in the original orange-red cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and light staining. There is slight fading to the front board and the spine is sunned and browned. The spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth at the bottom of the spine. The cloth on the spine edges is worn with a developing split to the bottom 2" of the rear spine edge and a split of about 1/2" at the top of the rear spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the half-title page and last page. There is a bookplate on the front fixed endpaper.
