Paperback. Condition: Fair. First Edition. xix, [1], [2], 3-297 plus approximately 200 pages of black and white plates. "Describes and reproduces 500 paintings, water-colours and drawings, which represent 20 per cent of the art works acquired by the Canadian government in the 1970 transaction with Canada Steamship Lines. These w…orks were created by some 100 artists who tried to capture through pictures almost two centuries of our national experience. The reader will be impressed by the amount and depth of research which characterizes this catalogue. Many will consider it a very significant addition to the knowledge of Canadian iconography in a decade which has been dedicated to access to information." - Foreword. Somewhat above-average external wear. Binding intact. Sunning to spine. Minimal library markings, including transparent laminate over covers. A sound reference copy of this highly informative work.

Add to basketThe two letters each 1p., 4to. Both on aged paper, with wear to left hand margin causing loss to text. In the first letter Lent gives details of 8 of his 17 purchases on that day, adding that 'The Lots sold quite well, a good many co are here, also Bowes, Blackwell, Mc Leis Taylor (Scheurer). Edwards, Pickering & E. Mathews, hav…e marks.' In the second letter he gives details of 5 of his 10 purchases, one of them for 'Mr Butterwick'. He gives details of three commissions which Butterwick left with him, only one of which was successful. Catalogue: 31 + [1]pp., 4to. In brown printed wraps. Aged and worn. Annotated in pencil, with some of the 831 lots priced and named. A sturdy country-house library (the top seller, at £130 to Drayton, was a first edition of Chesterfield's letters).
