In a very good condition, with fine, mostly crisp plates. Overall an excellent copy. ~ Jordan 0770. The "Ouvrage posthumes" comprises of 3 volumes, each complete in itself. Louis de Cormontaigne (here: Cormontaingne), (1695-1752). French military engineer, Vauban's successor. Had a decisive influence on the art of fortification well into the 19th century, although most of his works were published posthumously. In 1745 he became brigadier and was appointed director of fortifications in the towns of Moselle (Metz, Thionville, Bitche, Verdun, Longwy).
