Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Hardcover. Blue cloth over boards with gold lettering. Title page dated 1918. Copyright page dated 1918. 110 pages. Covers are clean and unmarked, although there is some rubbing, especially to spine, making gold lettering appear quite faded. Corners as well as head and foot of spine have some shelf-wear, and there is some very light chipping to cloth over spine. Gutter is cracked in front and rear of book, but binding remains strong and does not appear compromised. Previous owner's bookplate on front attached endpaper. Pages are slightly toned, but are otherwise unmarked and text is clear and bright. Overall, a very good copy.

Hardback. Blue cloth, gilt lettering on front cover and spine, 12mo, xvi, 110 pp., frontis portrait of the author. Cornet-Auquier (1887-1916) was a graduate of the University of Dijon. He was a professor at Glasgow when World War I began, and as a French reservist was called to active duty in August 1914. He served as Captain in the 133rd Infantry Regiment in the Vosges and died March 2, 1916 from shrapnel wounds suffered in combat. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. This book consists of letters sent to his family. Edited and translated with an introduction by Theodore Staton. No marks in book, binding tight. Light moisture stain at top of ffep, half-title, and frontis. Covers clean, but top edge of text block shows some soiling. Book condition VG. Binding: HB. Edition: First Printing, April 1918, of the First American Edition.
