Er arbeitete bei Virchow und Koch in Berlin, bei Pasteur studierte er dessen Schutzimpfungsmethode gegen Hundswut. 1885 wurde er Professor der pathologischen Histologie an der Budapester Universität. 'Er studirte das Verhalten der Tuberkelbazillen zum Gewebe; er war einer der Ersten, welche im Urin des Lebenden Tuberkelbazillen fanden; er wies nach, das die Leprabazillen auf dem Wege der inneren Haarwurzelscheide die unversehrte Epidermis durchwandern' (H./H.).
