Condition: Good. 0. Cm. 18, pp. 162. Graziosa legatura tardo-ottocentesca in mezza pergamena con titoli in oro su tassello in pelle; carta ai piatti e tagli marmorizzati. Qualche sporadica/trascurabile macchietta sparsa. Esemplare nel complesso fresco e ben conservato. Interessante opera, vero e proprio manifesto della laicitÅdello stato, in cui il giurista e filosofo pisano Cosimo Amidei (1722-1784) rivendica le prerogative della società civile rispetto al potere della chiesa. L'Autore critica i benefici ecclesiastici, compresa la possibilità di mettere libri all'Indice ed elabora un'analisi fiscale relativa alle immunità e alle esenzioni dei beni della chiesa [a questo proposito si veda il saggio di Franco Venturi, Settecento riformatore, II, pp. 237-249]. Poco si conosce della biografia dell'Autore. Si laureò in Giurisprudenza all'Università di Pisa probabilmente nel 1746 e per le modeste condizioni della sua famiglia nel 1739 chiese e ottenne di essere ammesso con un posto gratuito al Collegio di Sapienza. Stando ad una lettera di Alessandro Verri al fratello Pietro, Amidei era un magistrato, definito "notaro criminale". Conobbe personalmente Cesare Beccaria, di cui era un ammiratore e con cui fu in corrispondenza fin dal 1766. Rara prima edizione messa all'Indice dei libri proibiti con decreto dell'11 Agosto 1769. Copertina morbida coeva con titolo manoscritto al piatto anteriore in discrete condizioni con usure marginali e mancanze. Legatura in discrete condizioni con rotture. Pagine in buone condizioni con fioriture. Gore d'umidità marginali. Piccola galleria di tarlo al margine di piegatura da pag. 61 a 92 senza perdita di testo. In 8. cm 22,5x15. Pp. VIII+184. Second edition of 1783 of this work of anonymous quthor but attributed to Cosimo Amidei. The work was but in the Index of Forbidden books. The first edition has been publisheed in Florence in 1768, the second one in Amsterdam in 1783 but is a false place of printing, it has been published in Florence (Cfr. Diz. di opere anonime e pseudonime). Antique handwritten note in the title page. In fair conditions. Soft coeval cover with handwritten title in the front plate in fair conditions with wearings and lackings. Binding in fair conditions with cracks.
