Other places visited include Wooten Creek, Torbay, Lyme Regis, etc, with detailed daily accounts of the events of each day. Running to 30 handwritten pages accompanied by 29 original photographs The Second part of the book records another cruise. This time in The "Elaine", a 14 ton cutter which was built in Whitstable in 1892 The cruise took place from May 9th to September 18th 1911, the entries are not daily in this log, but it runs to 52 fully used hand written pages and is accompanied with 35 original photographs taken on the cruise. This cruise started in Brightlingsea, taking in Margate, Ramsgate, Dover, Beachy Head, Dockhead, Brightlingsea, Southsea, Ryde, Wooton, Hythe, Exbury, Portland, Weymouth, Salcombe, Kingsbridge, etc. I have only briefly skimmed through the accounts, there was at least one accident where a crew member took a blow to the head, there is a photo of him with his head in bandages, it looks like the different crew members took turns to record the daily events as the entries are in a number of different hands. There is a lot of detail to go through, and its nice that both accounts are accompanied with photographs so you can put faces to the different crew members mentioned. The handwriting is generally very legible, and makes for very interesting reading. A previous owner has supplied photocopies of the original entries in Lloyds Register for the two vessels. A LOVELY MANSCRIPT BOOK RECORDING TWO LONG SAILING CRUSIES ON THE ENGLISH SOUTH COAST OVER 100-YEARS-AGO.
