A Scarce Elementary Guide to the Constitutions of the United States and Vermont Crippen, William C. [1853-1917]. The Constitutions of the United States and Vermont. With References. Hyde Park, VT: The Lamoille News Print, 1880. 58 pp. Text of the U.S. Constitution interleaved with blanks. Octavo (7-1/4" x 3-3/4"; 18.2 x 9.5 cm). Original quarter cloth over paper-covered boards, gilt title, reading The Constitutions, to front board. Light rubbing, minor dent to fore-edge near upper corner, moderate toning to interior. A good copy. $75. * Only edition. Crippen was the principal of the Johnson Normal School, a teacher training college in Vermont, from 1875-1881. He was held in high esteem; an early local history described him as "a genius of a teacher." Presumably compiled for use in elementary civics classes, this book includes "A Brief History of the Constitution," the text of the U.S. Constitution, interleaved with blanks for note-taking, and the Vermont state constitution. OCLC locates 7 copies of this title, 4 outside Vermont (Harvard, OCLC WorldShare Management Services, Library Company of Philadelphia, University of Virginia Law School).
