Undated, but probably between 1885-1899, (date of penned ownership to FEP). From the collection of Ian Angus (British Librarian and a scholar on George Orwell), whose name and date are pencilled to F…EP. Also penned to the FEP is the name 'Howard Carter', however not the Egyptologist. Boards are a little scored. Edges, corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed. Page block is tanned and blemished. Foxing noted on the pastedowns and endpapers. Spots of foxing also noted on a few of the pages, which are otherwise clear. Spine stitching visible in places, however binding remains sound. LW. Used.

George Eliot (pseudonym of Mary Anne Evans, 1819-1880) wrote seven novels, of which at least five are significant in the history of English literature. She was a frre-thinker and somewhat scandalous. Her marriage to John Cross, twenty… years her junior, lasted only for one year prior to her death. These are Very Good copies of a Later Printing. Three volumes, in green publisher's cloth with gilt lettering and with a facsimile signature on the front cover. Volume One has no publication date, but the other two list 1899 and there is a previous-owner signature from 1901 on the FFEPs. Clean texts; 366, 324, and 340 pages. Volume three is indexed and has four pages of publisher's adverts in the back. The TP of Volume Two has been torn but remains attached. An attractive set; quite readable today. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.
