Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. In this volume Silvio Cruschina uses a comparative analysis to determine the syntax of the functional projections associated with discourse-related features, and to account for the marked word orders found in Romance-particularly in the fronting phenomena. Several language-specific analyses of discourse-related phenomena have been proposed in the literature, including studies on the notions of topic and focus in Romance, but the lack of a uniform definition of thesenotions, together with different assumptions in relation to the triggering features, has led to the perception that the Romance languages show many distinct and heterogeneous properties with respectto dislocation and fronting constructions. This volume is intended to complement the existing literature by integrating recent work on the topic and by emphasizing original and unifying reflections that combine and coordinate diverse elements. Cruschina's investigations clarify fundamental notions such as topic, focus, and contrast, drawing on new data from Sicilian, Sardinian, and other Romance varieties. In this volume Silvio Cruschina uses a comparative analysis to determine the syntax of the functional projections associated with discourse-related features, and to account for the marked word orders found in Romance-particularly in the fronting phenomena. Syntax, Semantics and Variation. Edited by Silvio Cruschina, Katharina Hartmann and Eva-Maria Remberger. The aim of this volume is to complement the vast body of research literature by offering a set of cutting-edge studies on negation. The eight contributions are related to recent questions bearing on the syntax and semantics of negative elements and the variation in their form, and follow the central assumption that a proper understanding of the multifaceted expression of negation is central to our understanding of the grammar as a whole. With this in mind, different approaches and a variety of empirical and analytic details have been included in this volume. With contributions by Anne Breitbarth, Silvio Cruschina, Karen De Clercq, Cecilia Poletto, Adam Ledgeway, Maria Barouni, Michel Hanstein, Jakob Steixner, Doris Penka, Katharina Hartmann and Eva-Maria Remberger. 216 Seiten mit 23 Abb., gebunden (Wiener Arbeiten zur Linguistik; Vol. 3/V&R Unipress/Vienna University Press 2017) leichte Lagerspuren/near mint. Buch. Condition: Neu. Negation is a universal feature of human language that is inherently logical in nature, presents typologically diverse manifestations, and plays a fundamental role in the mapping between syntactic structure and semantic interpretation.
