Published in Chester in 1815, this is the first Edition of this early history of the city, bound in an old full leather binding, just over 8 inches tall, 334 pages plus index, illustrated with five etchings by the author, four are full page, the fifth is a smaller illustration on the title page. There is a crack running the length of the joint to the upper board along spine edges, board loosened but still attached by the binding cords. Internally a few foxing spots, some light browning else contents in nice general condition.

Later morroco over marbled boards. Red spine label with gilt title. Gilt and blind decorations. Near fine. Minor shelf wear. Edges and end papers dust dulled. Internally bright and clean. Ex Libris of previous owner (see provenance comments below). A lovely copy in a nice sturdy binding. See images. Provenance: From the Library of Franz Pollack-Parnau with his Ex Libris. This book belonged to Franz Pollack-Parnau (1903-2003), a scion of a Moravian family that had amassed a fortune in the textile industry. His library in the family palace at Vienna's Schwarzenbergplatz was legendary.
