[xv],386,[8]pp. Orig. calf, raised spine bands, red morocco spine label, gilt-chamfered edges. Front board nearly detached, wear to spine ends, small chip to front upper free corner, light toning, else very good. The most famous herbal in English, first published in 1652 and commonly known as "Culpeper's Herbal." With the bookplate of Harvey Cushing (1869-1939), a neurosurgeon, pathologist, writer, and draftsman. A pioneer of brain surgery, he was the first exclusive neurosurgeon and the first person to describe Cushing's disease.
