A Sylloge of the Sasanian Coins in the National Museum of Iran (Muzeh Melli Iran), Tehran. Volume 1. Ardashir I Hormizd IV. Royal Numismatic Society Special Publication No. 47. London, 2010. Quarto, pp. (9), 102 b/w plates all with descriptive text. Cloth, jacket. In the last few decades, Sasanian numismatics have attracted much scholarly attention, and as a result many books, articles and electronic publications have emerged. This present volume records the coins from Ardashir I (AD 224-241) to the end of Horizd IV (AD 579-590) in the Department of Coins and Seals in the National Museum of Iran. However, it does not include a sizeable bulk of confiscated material, which was not traditionally part of the Department of Coins and Seals of the Museum. It also omits a handful of coins too badly corroded to allow identification. The publication of a second volume consisting of around 2,500 coins from Khusrau II to the end of the Sasanian dynasty is currently being prepared.

In 2000 an official collaborative enterprise was set up between the British Museum, the National Museum of Iran (Muzeh Melli Iran), and the British Institute of Persian Studies at the British Academy. The project's aim was to make the important Sasanian collections in Tehran and the British Museum accessible to numismatists worldwide. The Sasanian Coin Project has resulted in a two-volume published catalogue of about 4,500 Sasanian coins in the National Museum of Iran. Volume II records the Sasanian coins from Khusrau II (AD 591-628) to Yazdgard III (AD 632-651).
