Softbound. Condition: Fine. First Edition. The author provides a detailed history of medieval Spain's attempts to cross the Pacific Ocean and to establish a foothold in Asia, in search of spices and other treasure and in competition with Portugal. These Spanish efforts succeeded with Magellan's landing in the Philippines in 1521. He then follows the voyages of Loaysa, Saavedra, Villalobos and finally the Basque, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, who moved the Spanish colony he had earlier established in Cebu (1565), to Manila, in 1571. Thereafter began the Spanish conquest and domination of the entire country. Staple bound in decorative wraps. iv, 122 pp. Now rare. Size: 23 x 15 cm.
