The great Czech violinist and composer Jan Kubelik (1880-1940) is mentioned in Carl Sandburg's "Chicago Poems" (published in 1916) and in Robert Ludlum's "The Janson Directive" (published in 2002). He was the father of the conductor Rafael Kubelik.

Czech nationalists however criticised him for setting German texts.).
