There is a small tear the bottom of the spine and all other edges of both front and rear covers are curved in. This is because the outer wrappers extend quite a bit over the…interior text pages. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight except for a pulling spot at page 48/49. The only handwriting found in the book is on the underside of the front cover, where the following is hand printed: "D. H. Mugridge, Library of Congress". This book was part of the personal collection of Donald H. Mugridge, a noted American chess player whose career spanned several decades. During his lifetime he was the Harvard Chess Club champion, the Washington D.C. champion, the Washington Chess Divan champion, the Massachusetts State champion, and the chess columnist for the Washington Star. D. H. Mugridge was also a noted historian, author, and a specialist in American history in the General Reference and Bibliography Division of the Library of Congress.
