We have little information about the author but believe he was born in 1854, and also published historical works. The book is bound in the original thin plain card with a blue-grey card cover attached at the spine. There is black titling on the front. There is shelf wear with some soiling on the covers and a little staining on the cover. The corners are lightly bumped and there is a little loss to the cover at the bottom of the spine. There is an inscription on the top corner of the front cover that reads: "M. Torrance? from the Author - 1944". The contents are tight and clean with some foxing on the half-title page and a little scattered faint foxing elsewhere within the book.
