Dongsha Atoll, located in the northern part of the South China Sea, is an important habitat for marine life and a treasure trove of marine biodiversity. To protect its rich marine ecology and resources, Dongsha Atoll was designated as Taiwan's 7th National Park and its first marine national park in 2007, undertaking the task of conserving and restoring the diverse life and ecological environment of Dongsha Atoll. Now, ten years after its establishment, Dongsha Atoll National Park has conducted numerous biological surveys and studies, including those on corals, seagrass, fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, gaining a deeper understanding of our abundant resources and aiming to fully record and protect these organisms. However, despite these years of research and surveys, we have yet to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the beautiful soft corals and explore the diverse forms of these soft corals that coexist with stony corals. However, this is also because there are very few experts in the world who study the subclass Octocorhabditis, to which soft corals belong.
