Eine schwierige Aufgabe der Wissenschaft ist es, die verschiedenen einzelnen Fachrichtungen mit ihren oft sehr widersprüchlichen Einzelaussagen immer wieder in einem Gedankengebäude - einem philosophischen System - allgemeingültig darzustellen, so dass jede dieser einzelnen Fachrichtungen mit allen wesentlichen Aspekten der Gesamtdarstellung zurechtkommen kann. Im 19. und im 20. Jh. wurden mehr Versuche dieser Art hervorgebracht, als wohl alle Jahrhunderte zuvor. Das hat seinen primären Grund darin, dass sehr viele neue Forschungsergebnisse der Naturwissenschaften vorlagen und die Geisteswissenschaften sich früher oder später insbesondere mit diesen Erkenntnissen auseinandersetzen mussten. Besonders die Erkenntnisse der Physik und der Biologie haben im Verlauf dieser Jahre unser Weltbild total verändert. Dass in dieser Zeit des Wandels die Wissenschaft vom Menschen, die Anthropologie, nicht unbeteiligt danebenstehen konnte, sondern auch ihre Höhen und Tiefen erlebte, ist uns allen durchaus gegenwärtig. Die Menschheit erlebte in diesen 200 Jahren einen solch enormen Wissenszuwachs wie noch niemals in ihrer vieltausendjährigen Geschichte. Aber nicht nur der gewaltige Wissenzuwachs auf naturwissenschaftlichen und auch auf technik- und geisteswissenschaftlichen Gebieten prägt heute unsere Zeit, sondern auch die schnelle Information. Wir erreichen innerhalb von wenigen Stunden jeden Punkt auf der Erde, und die Nachrichten aus anderen Kontinenten haben den gleichen Stellenwert wie die Gegebenheiten vor unserer Haustür. Unser Gesichtskreis ist größer geworden! Dieser noch zu Immanuel Kants Zeiten nicht vorstellbare Wandel hat aber leider keineswegs dazu geführt, dass die einzelnen 'wissenschaftlichen Fachrichtungen eine engere Zusammenarbeit suchen, ihre Forschungsergebnisse umfassend austauschen und in einer Streitkultur um die besten Argumente und Beweise ringen. Allein die Kluft zwischen den Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften hat sich nicht verkleinert, sie ist noch immer unverändert tief. Oft prägt Arroganz den Bezug zum anderen! In der Regel sind sogar die Forschungsergebnisse und die Argumente einer Disziplin der Nachbardisziplin nur schwer zugänglich. Abschottung ist aber grundsätzlich falsch, und je dichter die Schotten im Laufe der Zeit geschlossen werden, umso schwieriger wird ein faires Miteinander. Es ist deshalb jeder einzelne Versuch - insbesondere junger Wissenschaftler - nur zu unterstützen, die sich einmal fächerübergreifend unterhalten wollen, auch wenn ein einzelner Versuch nicht gleich zu handfesten Forschungsergebnissen führen kann. Als im Jahre 1997 Herr Dr. phil. Ortwin Dally, ein junger klassischer Archäologe, damals noch in Freiburg i. Br. zu Hause, zu mir kam, mir seine Idee eines wissenschaftlichen Kolloquiums zum Kultur- begriff vortrug und mich fragte, ob ich interessiert sei, ein solches Kolloquium im Rahmen des archäologischen Landesamtes des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt zu veranstalten, war ich erstaunt und interessiert zugleich, denn es ist leider nicht mehr üblich, dass junge Kolleginnen/Kollegen solche oder ähnliche Wünsche äußern.
