An unusual publication implicitly exploring boundaries between 2D and 3D artwork, involving digital video stills of the process of cutting paper and wood in the creation of 'graphic structures'. The artist states these "are born from a folded sheet of paper" (as distinct from volumetric sculpture). Macaparana took his name from the town in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, where the artist was born in 1952 as Jose Souza Oliveira Filho. Self-taught, he began his career as a figurative painter. He held his first solo exhibition in Recife in 1970. Since 1973 he has lived and worked in Sao Paulo. He has exhibited in the main art galleries of Brazil, Mexico, Paris, Japan, New York and London. His works are part of the collection of several museums and private collections. Very good condition.…
