Paperback. Condition: Good. 1954 D.V. Dioso (Pandan, Philippines), 6 1/4 x 7 7/8 inches tall stapled paperbound in printed covers, 100 pp. Slight to moderate soiling, creasing and edgewear to covers, with bumping and creasing to tips, especially upper tip. 1955 presentation inscription and stamp of the author's mother, Mariano S. Dioso, also of Pandan, Antique, Philippines, to the verso of the front cover. Otherwise, apart from age toning, a very good copy of this rare collection of medical poetry. Not in OCLC. ~III~ [1.0P] A unique book of verse by physician Daniel V. Dioso of the Philippines. In his introduction, Filipino American physician Jesus C. Bacala (1915-2000), who helped found the American College of International Physicians, writes of Dr. Dioso's verse: 'Although immensely medical in subject matter and development, it is non-medical in approach and treatment. Nay, it is literary and beautiful, dressed in the personal style of a man of feeling and thinking, and a physician of knowledge and ability, whose fingertips do not feel the radial pulse alone, but also senses the beating heart that causes this pulse, divines the mind that shares in the blood circulated by this pulse, and reads the soul of being whose pulse he holds and feels. Dr. Dioso's collection is the culmination of a life-dream of medical elevation to the spiritual and the sublime, above the sufferings of Soma, beyond the imaginings of the Psyche. It is medical science in connotation with the spiritual and the eternal values.'.
