Includes Praise for The Story of the Human Body; About the Author; Dedication; Preface; Introduction: What Are Humans Adapted For?; Acknowledgments; Notes and Index. Illustrated with black-and-white drawings and graphs. "Fascinating . A readable introdu…ction to the whole field and great on the making of our physicality." - Nature. "In this landmark book of popular science, Daniel E. Lieberman gives us a lucid and engaging account of how the human body evolved over millions of years. He illuminates the major transformations that contributed to key adaptations of the body: the rise of bipedalism; the shift to a non-fruit-based diet; the advent of hunting and gathering; and how cultural changes like the Agricultural and Industrial revolutions have impacted us physically. He shows how the increasing disparity between the jumble of adaptations in our Stone Age bodies and advancements in the modern world is occasioning a paradox: greater longevity but increased chronic disease. And finally - provocatively - he advocates the use of evolutionary information to help nudge, push, and sometimes even compel us to create a more salubrious environment and pursue better lifestyles." - from the rear outer cover. "Sweeping .Convincingly makes the case for a wholesale rethinking of how we live our modern lives." - CommonHealth, WBUR. "[Lieberman's] found a tale inside our skin that's riveting, enlightening, and more than a little frightening." - Christopher McDougall, author.

A solid and attractive example of this early volume in the classic 12-book Treasury set. Edition/Printing: Copyright 1909; no later printings indicated, early printing, consistent with the period's standard practice of issuing undated reprints within the same year. Hamilton Wright Mabie (1846-1916) was an influential American essayist, critic, and editor whose work shaped early 20th-century approaches to children's literature and moral education. As a long-time editor at The Outlook, Mabie promoted accessible literature for young readers and curated numerous anthologies that blended storytelling with cultural enrichment. His editorial leadership defined The Young Folks' Treasury as one of the most respected juvenile collections of its era. E. Nesbit (illustrator).

Signed and Inscribed by Mallory Factor with black Sharpie on the Dedication Page. "Bestselling author, professor, and pundit Mallory Factor illuminates the conservative tradition in American politics with essays from leading figures in the conservative movement. Ambitious in its breadth and depth, Big Tent provides a fresh and surprising treatment of the conservative movement as told by the leaders themselves. In this unique collection, which is based on his star-studded course at The Citadel, conservative leaders explain how the movement developed as a powerful force in American politics, how it functions now with a wide range of viewpoints, and where it is going in the future. The origin of conservative ideas - from their ancient roots to their English origins, from the American Revolution to William F. Buckley, Alexis de Tocqueville to Barry Goldwater, and libertarianism to neo-conservatism - are revealed and examined in this compelling volume. These illuminating essays include: Newt Gingrich on the political ideas surrounding the American Revolution; Yaron Brook of the Ayn Rand Institute on the emergence of libertarianism; Ed Meese on the Reagan Revolution; David Keene of the NRA on Buckley-style "fusionism"; Phyllis Schlafly on the rise of the religious right; Donald Rumsfeld on the Bush administration's "War on Terror"; Rand Paul on the future of the conservative movement. Insightful and stimulating, Big Tent is an outstanding survey of the conservative movement from its most significant living figures." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.
