Neue Ansätze sind jetzt notwendig. Die vollständige Umwandlung der im Kraftstoff gebundenen chemischen Energie in mechanische Nutzenergie ist nicht möglich. Auch zukünftig wird der größere Anteil der zugeführten Energie system- und betriebsbedingt als thermische Energie ungenutzt abgegeben werden. Hier setzt Thermoelektrik (TE) an. Denn TE-Systeme können thermische Energie direkt in elektrische Energie umwandeln und umgekehrt.Thermoelektrik ist in Bewegung ist und kann eine Chance für die Automobilindustrie sein. Dies zeigen auch die anlaufenden EU- und D-Förderprogramme. In den nächsten Jahren muss die TE beweisen, dass sie einen Beitrag zur Lösung der in 2020 in Europa verbindlich geltenden CO2-Grenzwerte für Automobile liefern wird.Die entscheidenden Weichen sind jetzt zu stellen, um die Technologie aus den Forschungslaboren in die Industrialisierung zu bringen. Hierzu leistet dieser Band einen wichtigen Beitrag.'.
