No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. Army Portfolio by Capt. Daniel Power Whiting. 2x hand colored lithographs from Whiting's series of the Mexican American war. The complete set contains 5 total lithographs and is reputed to have had only 24 copies printed. Streeter sale 275. Monterey, As seen from a house-top in the main Plaza, [to the west.] October, 1846. On stone by Chas. Fendrish. No. 1 of a series. Heights of Monterey, From the Saltillo road looking towards the City, [from the West.] Worth's Division moving into position under the guns of the enemy, after the action of "St. Jeronimo", on the morning of 21st. Septr. 1846. On stone by F. Swinton. No. 2. New York: G. & W. Endicott, 1847. Colors are crisp and clear on both lithographs. The 'Monterey' lithograph has fading and smudges to bottom part of text with minor smudging and a pencil mark. "Heights of Monterey' has some minor foxing to edges. Frames are 25" ¼ x 29" ½ with visible portion 15 1/2" x ~20" . The first lithograph was removed from frame and inspected, measures 19" x 24" on woven paper.
