Hardcover. Condition: Excellent. Dust Jacket Condition: Good Plus. Vintage Hardback Book with Dust Jacket and Author Letter is in Very Good condition with a tight binding and clean crisp pages. Inside text is in Excellent condition and appears to be Unread and Unused! No writing or markings inside or outside of the book. There is some minor spotting to some of the outside page ends, but this is just shelf wear that does not effect the inside text. Book includes the letter from the author and illustrator to "Dear Young Reader". These letters were provided to members of the "Young Reader of America" club. Letter itself is in Good condition with some edge chipping and darkening around the edges. Outside cloth covers are nice with some minor edge and corner wear. Dust Jacket is in Good Plus condition due to some minor soiling to the back cover and some edge chipping and small missing pieces at the top and bottom of the outside spine. Dust Jacket is now covered by a new clear mylar cover. Book has come from a private collection. Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting. The West is full of great stories, and this is one of them. It tells of the sea-and-land expeditions financed by John Jacob Astor and undertaken by his partners for the purpose of establishing a fur-trading post at the mouth of the Columbia River. So here we go up the Missouri and over the Tetons. Less common book in the Landmark series.
