Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 1989. The photographer's breakthrough collection of celebrity portraits and male and female nudes. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the Second Edition. Published in a small an…d limited first print run as a hardcover original only. Volume One of the landmark two-volume set. Each volume was published separately, ten years apart from each other in fact, and by different publishers. The reason they nevertheless work perfectly together is that Greg Gorman maintained full creative control over the production of both. The First Edition is now rare. A stunningly beautiful production by Greg Gorman and Gary Johns: Oversize-volume format. Photographs by Greg Gorman. There is minimal text. Printed on pristine-white, thick uncoated stock paper by the legendary Rapaport Printing Company New York to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ, which utilizes a male nude in front and a celebrity portrait on the back, and white titles on the spine, as issued. Presents "Greg Gorman: Volume I". His finest and most representative images in the two genres that he has excelled and established himself in: The celebrity portrait and the nude. Dramatically lit black-and-white, full-page photographs of celebrities are juxtaposed with spectacular, highly erotic nudes, including the now-classic six-panel fold-out of the model Tony Ward in different Classical Sculpture-inspired, full-frontal nude poses. The celebrity portraits include Al Pacino, David Bowie, Charlie Sheen, Warren Beatty, Madonna, Rupert Everett, Pee-Wee Herman, Kim Basinger, Robin Williams, Andy Warhol, and Michael Jackson, among many others. An accomplished Hollywood and lifestyle magazine photographer who has done commercial work for HBO, Columbia Pictures, Interview Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Playboy Magazine, LIFE, and Tatler, among others, Greg Gorman's true passions are the charismatic personality of the celebrity and the chiseled perfection of the human form, as only the (his) camera can capture. This breakthrough collection offers definitive and ample proof of Greg Gorman's distinctive style and outstanding mastery of his chosen medium. An absolute "must-have" title for Greg Gorman collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated, and inscribed in black ink-pen on the flyleaf by the photographer: "For Dieter, Thanks for coming and also for your interest in my work. I hope we can do more projects together in the future. All my best, Greg Gorman 3/27/90". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Gorman's handwriting is unusually clean, flowing, and elegant. The recipient, who is named, was one of Greg Gorman's most important client/supporters. This title is a contemporary erotic art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and inscribed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing of Volume One available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Gorman did NOT sign most copies of the book. Copies available online have serious flaws yet command more than $500. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with duotone plates. One of the most brilliant American photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER GREG GORMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1871681006. Signed by Author.

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 220 pages. Published in 2012. Retrospective collection of portrait-photographs. One of the most beautiful photography books of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editio…ns. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Hatje Cantz: Oversize-volume format. White cloth boards with red titles embossed on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Steve Schapiro. Text by Mathias Harder. The subjects are THE Who's Who of 20th century performing and visual arts. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Germany to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ, which features, in a photographic coup, David Bowie on the cover, and red gilt titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Steve Schapiro's "Then And Now". A triumphant achievement. "The photographer behind countless now-classic portraits of rock stars, film stars, and politicians from the 1960's and 1970's, Schapiro has worked as a film set photographer on more than 200 Hollywood movies; designed several iconic film posters, notably 'Midnight Cowboy', 'Taxi Driver', and 'The Godfather'; and as documentary photographer, recorded the political tumult of the 1960's and 1970's, in photo-essays on drug addiction, the Civil Rights Movement, and Presidential campaigns. Looks back at Schapiro's half-century career, reproducing famous images alongside new and unseen work. Includes portraits of the stars as never-before-seen" (Publisher's blurb). They include indelible portraits of iconic figures such as: Woody Allen, David Bowie, Marlon Brando, Johnny Depp, Robert De Niro, Francis Ford Coppola, Jodie Foster, Aretha Franklin, Dustin Hoffmann, John Huston, Michael Jackson, Sophia Loren, Rene Magritte, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, (the very elusive) Roman Polanski, Otto Preminger, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Redford, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Andy Warhol, Orson Welles, and Frank Zappa, among others. Genuine celebrity is not just captured, it is certified for posterity, by Schapiro's camera. An absolute "must-have" title for Steve Schapiro collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed and inscribed in red pen-marker on the title page by the photographer: "A great friend with a great eye. Stay inspired! Best, Steve". It is followed by his signature at the bottom of the page: "Steve Schapiro". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The red pen beautifully matches the book's red titles. The recipient, Paul Berlanga, who is named, is a Chicago-based photography expert and important artist-painter, who helped Steve Schapiro design and produce his books. This title is a late-modern photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and inscribed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with black-and-white plates. One of the finest American photographers of our time. A fine copy. A scarce copy of this Bowie publication, this is the beautiful Limited Numbered Art Edition "B" of only 100 copies numbered 101-200 (this book is numbered 110) that features an extra print 'UK Summer Tour, 1973' with an original signature…by photographer Mick Rock, the extra print is included only in the Art Editions. THE BOOK: The set features a teal cloth hardcover volume with 3 foldouts in a clamshell box, lenticular cover, 31.5 x 44 cm (12.4 x 17.3 in.), 310 pages. Both David Bowie and Mick Rock have signed on the limitation page which features the number of this edition. [We know the number because it is printed on a label on the outside of the unopened box]. The front cover features a brilliant colorful hologram which shows several views of Bowie depending on the angle you view it. Our accompanying images capture some of those views. THE PRINT: Enclosed in its own separate teal cloth cover, this striking image is a pigment print, 27.7 x 40 cm on 32 x 45 cm paper (10.9 x 15.7 in. on 12.6 x 17.7 in. paper) and is signed by Mick Rock in black felt pen. THE CONTENT: This limited Art Edition brings together the best of Rock s Bowie portfolio with spectacular stage shots as well as intimate backstage portraits. Pictures for press, album jackets, and stills from promo movies sit alongside around 50 percent previously unseen images, offering unprecedented access to the many facets of Bowie s personality and his fame. Through the aloof and approachable, the playful and serious, the candid and contrived, this tribute bursts with the daring and energy of its unique and flamboyant star who defined, and defied, a generation. [Genesis Publications] Also issued in an Art Edition "A" (numbers 1-100) with a different but no less brilliant signed print, and a Collector's edition numbered 201-1972. A beautiful and scarce set. No discounts.
