Nicht blos als Arzt, sondern auch als Bürger war er, bei seiner administrativen Befähigung, aufs Rühmlichste thätig. 1824 stiftete er eine Speiseanstalt für arme Reconvalescenten, 1826 betheiligte er sich an der Gründung des Taubstummeninstitute, 1833 rief er die Kleinkinderbewahranstalt in's Leben; alle 3 Anstalten stehen noch in voller Blüthe. Er starb am 10. Sept. 1863. An besonderen Schriften von ihm führen wir an: "Ueber das Wesen der Leukopathie oder des Albinoismus ; u.s.w." (Braunschweig 1822, 4., m. 1 Kpf.) - "Ueber das Alter des Bauch- und Gebärmutterschnittes an Lebenden u.s.w. (Ebenda 1824, 2. Aufl. 1825) - "De uteri in effarmandis molis vi formatrici dissert" (Ebenda 1825, 4.) zu BLUMENBACH's Dr.-Jubil. -- "Aerztliche Andeutungen, zu einer näheren Bestimmung des körperlichen. Standpunktes der Taubstummen. Eine Abhandlung zur Einweihung des Taubstummm-Institutes zu Braunschw." (1828) - "Einleitung zur med Encyclopädie, zum Behufe seiner Vorlesungen bearb" (1829) u.s w.
