Édition originale de la plus grande rareté. « Le recueil de David Rigaud est un des volumes les plus rares de la Bibliothèque Dauphinoise » (Charles Nodier). Troisième et dernier recueil, le plus abouti des poésies du drapier de Crest (Dauphiné) David Rigaud qui devenu prospère, imprima à ses frais ses poésies publiées une première fois à Lyon en 1637 puis à Paris en 1639, parachevées ("ce n'estoit que mon apprentissage") quatorze ans plus tard pour la plus grande "satisfaction" de son lectorat avec la réunion de pièces écrites entre 1640 et 1652 dont La Cigale, petit poème de quarante vers, suivi de réponses et répliques entre l'auteur et son ami Vincent, avocat de Crest. Selon Brun-Durand (Dictionnaire de la Drôme) « le seul mérite de cette oeuvre est de nous avoir conservé quelques échantillons de patois crestois » imprimé selon toute vraisemblance pour la première fois ici ; il contient en outre des renseignements précieux sur la vie et les moeurs des habitants d'une ville dauphinoise sous les règnes de Louis XIII et la Régence d'Anne d'Autriche. David Rigaud sut reconnaître chez son contemporain le menuisier et poète bourguignon Adam Billaut auquel il adressa deux lettres fraternelles, comme lui « un homme sans estude, & qui dans sa profession de Marchand a plus l'usage de l'aune que celuy des livres & de la plume ». Il mourut en 1659 sans avoir abjuré sa foi protestante, mais avec l'espoir de sa gloire posthume ainsi qu'on le lit dans L?Epitaphe de l?auteur faite pour luy : Crupies fut mon lieu de naissance / Le Crest celui de mon séjour (?)
