The original work written in Arabic in Mediaeval Spain as Al-akidah al-Rafiyah (The Sublime Faith), was Ha-Levi's attempt to integrate Aristotelianism into Jewish thought. This edition contains only the Hebrew translation found in the 1852 edition, and does not include the German translation by Simson Weil, however there is a reproduction on the original German title page (in gothic script) at the opposite end of the book block. Charles Lange) stand wegen der aufsehenerregenden Reportage von Joh. Gottried Pahl über die "Ermordung der französischen Gesandschaft in Rastadt" (Nürnberg u. Bayreuth 10. 5. 1799) in seiner "Deutschen Reichs- und Staatszeitung" auf Drängen der Österreicher in Bayreuth unter Hausarrest. Er konnte fliehen, zunächst nach Thüringen und dann nach Göttingen. "Simson vertreibt sich in Göttingen die Zeit vorzugsweise in der dortigen, reich ausgestatteten Bibliothek. Er hatte sich daran erinnert, dass es schon im 16. Jahrhundert unter Karl V. in der Nähe von Pavia einen folgenreichen Mord an zwei Gesandten im Dienste Frankreichs gegeben hatte. Auch damals waren habsburgische Soldaten die Täter gewesen und der Kaiser wurde der Mitwisserschaft verdächtigt. Mit Eifer machte sich Lange daran, dieses historische Ereignis vom 3.
