Prima non comune edizione di questo importante studio dedicato alla febbre gialla realizzato dal celebre fisico inglese Nathaniel Edward Bancroft. Nel 1795 nominato medico per le forze armate inglesi iniziò un lungo periodo di servizio all'estero che lo portò a far esperienze nelle Isole Windward , in Portogallo , nel Mediterraneo, al seguito della la Spedizione di Abercromby in Egitto nel 1801 durante il quale acquisì una grande conoscenza su vari tipi di epidemie di febbre gialla. Dopo un periodo di lavoro in Inghilterra, nel 1811 fu inviato in Jamaica dove rimase fino alla fine della sua vita. Il lavoro qui presentato, considerato è considerato come un pietra miliare delle conoscenze mediche della materia per le sue teorie rivoluzionarie.
