Boards (HB) in good + condition , wear to cover edges and spine. EX-lib with stamps on page edges and title page. Remnants of old pocket inside front cover. Completed shortly before his death in 1889, Davis wrote most of this book while staying at Beauvoir along the Mississippi Gulf Coast near Biloxi, Mississippi. The book is much less a Davis memoir than an articulation of the secession argument. Scarce copy of Davis's book in original hardcover.Spine has faded a bit, and there is wear to the extremities of the spine and boards, gray-blue publisher's top stain. Corners bumped. Scuffing to top rear hinge. Text is clean and unmarked. G+/VG- Condition.; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 520 pages.
