Davis presents a straightforward and altogether memorable account of the eventful march of the Hood unit ." A narrative by the chaplain to the 4th Texas Infantry, part of Hood's Texas brigade, with accounts of battles from May to December 1862: Eltham's Landing, Seven Pines, Gaines's Mill (Chickahominy River), Malvern Hill, Freeman's Ford, Manassas Station, Boonsboro Gap (South Mountain), Sharpsburg (Antietam), and Fredericksburg.
