(plans), covers worn, scuffed/scraped, spine well rubbed with minor worming near bottom edge, inner hinges cracked, recent bookplate (name illegible), contemporary ink name and ink stamp (Amos Drury), staining to first blank pages, toned else very good condition. The book is attributed to Gideon M. Davidson, one of the publishers and Samuel Williams. This history was originally issued in eight parts over the course of the war, this is the first bound edition, 39 chapters with continuous pagination. On the ffep is written in ink "Amos Drury's Book Price $2.50". Ink stamp "Amos Drury's". According to the U.S. Bounty And Warrant, Private Amos Drury of (Pittsford) Vermont served in the year 1812 under Capt. Caleb Henda (Hendee?) and Colonel Fossett. The "Sketches" include these details: "comparative view of the force and loss of the British and American fleets"; lists of the British vesels captured during the years 1812, 1813, 1814 and 1815. A very nice copy of this first American guide book specifically intended for summer vactioning. This edition did not contain the fold-out map that is found in later editions. FIFTH EDITION.
