Original engraved map hand-coloured in outline, overall 159 x 146 cm. with insets of Shetland Isles, Orkney Islands and Channel Islands, dissected into 48 sections, backed on linen, folding into original blind-stamped red cloth covered boards. Title and date in gilt to upper cover, blue decorative end-papers. Cove…rs a little age-soiled and rubbed atvextremities, map generally very good with nice vibrant colour. Very rare seemingly unrecorded first issue of this map clearly dated 1869: Worldcat lists 1874 and 1875 issues, Tooley's Dictionary cites 1875, Worms/Baynton-Williams fails to mention Daw at all. Only two copies of the map (later issues) in auction records.
