See images for condition. About the book >.>.> VOLUME III now completes my record of the painters of the Norwich School. V I trust that the work contains sufficient new material to have made the project worth while. I would like to render thanks to all who have made it possible: Dr. Rajnai and Miss Norma Watt at Norwich Museum and Art Gallery and parti-cularly Alec Cotman who has always refurbished any loss of enthusiasm on my part. I am particularly indebted for his discussions on the Cotmans. Again, numerous art dealers have readily assisted, including The Leger Gallery, 13 Old Bond Street, London; Spink & Sons, King Street, London: Richard Green. Esq. Dover Street, London: Oscar and Peter Johnson Ltd., Lowndes Lodge Gallery. Belgravia, London: Simon Carter, Esq. The Art Gallery, Woodbridge: C. Marshall Spink Ltd., Albemarle Street, London: E. Levine. Esq. The Antique Gallery, Cromer, For further details of past exhibitions the Museum authorities should be consulted. Whilst the works recorded are a guide they are by no.

Year 1967. Hardcover. English. See images for condition. About the book >.>.> Just as Gainsborough moved his abode to Bath in the West Country, George Frost emerged in Ipswich to carry the banner of East Anglian landscape painting. This task he undertook with skill and enthusiasm. Contemporaries with Frost were the painters in Norwich who later became known as the Norwich School. Further mention will be made of these painters in East Anglian Painters, Volume II. Prior to Gainsborough the only artists practising in eighteenth century East Anglia were the portrait painters. Gainsborough's landscape painting was the beginning of a new era. Whilst influenced by Dutch and French landscape painting there was also an element of true English Art in his work. The development of English Art received its full impetus with the work of John Constable. No landscape painter before or since has attained such profound achievements. By his genius and observation he formed the foundations for the serious landscape painters over the succeeding.
