Litografia, stampata su carta della cina, tratta da un disegno di William Linton eseguito durante il suo tour in Italia negli anni 1828 e 1829. "In order to preserve perfectly the fidelity, spirit, and character of the originals, which were taken in pencil, they will be repeated in the same free and sketchy style by Drawings executed by himself, on Stone". L'opera, in cui si trova inserita la veduta, "Sketches in Italy: Being a selection." dedicata a Sua Maestà William IV è da considerarsi una delle più importanti del Grand Tour del XIX prodotta da un artista inglese; uscì in dodici fascicoli, ciascuno contenente 8 illustrazioni, pubblicati ogni due mesi.Veduta della cittadina di Omegna circondata dai monti "eccezion fatta per la vivace libertà dei primi piani, aventi la funzione di accentuare la profondità, questa litografia, è assai veritiera" (Pellegrino).Margini leggermente bruniti, segni di foxing marginali che non compromettono il buono stato di conservazione generale.Rif: Pellegrino, p. 144Linton William (1791-1876) Il suo stile e la sua opera furono influenzati da Richard Wilson, il grande paesaggista gallese (1714-1782), per l'ampia composizione panoramica, nonché dall'opera di Claude Lorrain (1600-1682), di cui studiò gli effetti della luce naturale, e da Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714-1789), per la sua idealizzazione del classicismo. Nel 1817 si stabilì a Londra ed espose alla Royal Academy e alla British Institution. Nel 1823-24 ebbe parte attiva nella fondazione della Society of british Artists, della quale fu anche presidente nel 1837. Nel 1828-29 effettuò il lungo viaggio da cui scaturì la pubblicazione in due volumi in cui è inserita la presente veduta. Alcuni anni più tardi ne compì uno ancor più lungo nel Mediterraneo, visitò la Grecia, da cui scaturì l'opera "The scenery of Greece and its islands", edita nel 1850, la Sicilia, ancora il sud dell'Italia e il sud della Francia. Il risultato di questi viaggi fu un grande numero di schizzi e disegni che costituirono la base per i suoi dipinti di paesaggi di grandi dimensioni; per tale motivo fu definito "il nuovo Richard Wilson" e fu messo in comparazione con un altro grande artista del suo tempo: J.M.W. Turner.
