Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the work of Christian Philanthropist Count von der Recke Volmerstein in the field of neglected and abandoned children. The author details the personal motivations and struggles of the Count, who founded his first shelter in 1819. The book offers insight into the social and religious attitudes of 19th-century Prussia, and explores the Count's pioneering work within the broader context of Christian charity and philanthropy. Through his efforts and the support of donors, the Count eventually founded the Düsselthal Asylum, which, under the guidance of Christian Friedrich Georgi, grew to house over 300 children. Georgi's challenges included fires and storms that destroyed buildings and crops, yet he managed to expand the facility, increase the population, and clear its debts. By discussing the efforts of these two Christian men, this book sheds light on the vital role of faith and perseverance in addressing the needs of vulnerable children. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Hardcover. Condition: Poor. The Charities of Europe by John de Liefde.Jan or John de Liefde (1814-1869) was a Dutch preacher, evangelist and writer of Christian books and songs. Being a Mennonite minister he experienced a spiritual transformation and his preachings were more well-received by his many Reformed listeners than by his own Mennonite congregation, with which he split in 1845. After studying at the Seminary for Christian Teachers, De Liefde earned a living from 1848 onwards by writing booklets for Christian education. In 1856 he founded a Free Evangelical Church in Amsterdam, but in 1864 he left for England to raise funds. Besides being a preacher he was a poet, composer, humorist and theologian. In total h.…
