Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, printing the full Statutes of the Holy Brotherhood of Poor Clergymen in the Church of Saint John of Almedina, today the Episcopal Chapel of this City of Coimbra, reveals a profound need to reform and update centuries-old rules and regulations. The statutes, initially established at the Cathedral of Coimbra and later moved to Saint John of Almedina, remained largely unaltered over time, creating a disconnect between their directives and the changing realities of ecclesiastical life. The authors, a group of distinguished priests and scholars, recognized the discrepancy and set out to remedy it. Drawing on the foundational principles of the Church and the teachings of prominent thinkers like Innocent III, Boniface VIII, and Saint Augustine, they proposed numerous revisions. These revisions addressed everything from the election of officials and the celebration of religious services to the administration of the brotherhood's finances and the care of its sick and needy members. This volume not only offers a glimpse into the historical evolution of the Holy Brotherhood of Poor Clergymen but also provides a fascinating study of the challenges and opportunities faced by religious institutions as they adapt to the changing needs of their communities. Through its insights into the practicalities of medieval and early modern ecclesiastical governance, this book sheds new light on the role of the Church in shaping the social and spiritual fabric of society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
