Contact seller5-star seller1st Printing. 8 pages. T.p. wood engraving of the college [we presume], "Gilbert & Gihon Sc". 8vo. 8-1/2" x 5-5/8" Now Thomas Jefferson University, the Medical Department of Jefferson College in Philadelphia was established in 1825. The first class was graduated in 1826. The first classes were held in the Tivoli Theater on Prune… Street in Philadelphia, which had the first medical clinic attached to a medical school. The relationship with Jefferson College survived until 1838, when the Medical Department received a separate charter, allowing it to operate separately as the Jefferson Medical College. A 125-bed hospital, one of the first in the nation affiliated with a medical school, opened in 1877, and a school for nurses began in 1891. The Medical College became Thomas Jefferson University on July 1, 1969. Jefferson Medical College is the 9th oldest American medical school that is in existence today." [Wiki]. In this rare surviving announcement, I was particularly drawn to the fact the announcement lists Mr Watson along with faculty, where obviously the gentleman much more than a janitor, at least as we now understand the term. in fact, we find "He will direct students, on their arrival, to the residences of the Professors, and aid them in obtaining housing." Sounds more like a Scout Troop leader. Faint veritcal fold crease. Age-toning. Evidently bound at some point, with 4 stab holes along the spine. Few spots of foxing. Very Good. Printed self-wrappers, sewn. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve.
