Lot van ongeveer 90 originele foto's van de Sint-Veroonmars te Lembeek uit de privé-collectie van paassoldaat René Debusscher, die in 1997 aan zijn 50e deelname als paassoldaat toe was. Dit lot bevat zowel zwart-wit als kleurenfoto's gaande van 1948 tot ca. 2000. Twee krantenknipsels en 4 gedachtenisprentjes van overleden passoldaten zijn toegevoegd. De Sint-Veroonsmars in Lembeek is een eeuwenoude traditie die diep verankerd zit in het religieuze én culturele erfgoed van de streek. Elk jaar op Paasmaandag trekken honderden Lembeekse mannen, gekleed in uniform en met tromgeroffel, in een indrukwekkende optocht door de straten en velden van het dorp. Het hoogtepunt is de ommegang met het schrijn van Sint-Veroon, de patroonheilige van Lembeek. De deelnemers leggen een tocht van zo?n veertig kilometer af, waarbij ze verschillende kapellen en grenspunten van de parochie aandoen. De mars is in de eerste plaats een religieuze processie, die eer betoont aan Sint-Veroon. Volgens de overlevering was Veroon een Romeinse legionair uit de 3e eeuw die zich bekeerde tot het christendom en uiteindelijk als martelaar stierf. Zijn relieken rusten sinds de middeleeuwen in Lembeek en werden al snel een voorwerp van verering. Gelovigen zien in de mars een daad van geloof, eerbied en verbondenheid met de heilige. Maar de optocht heeft ook een sterke gemeenschapszin. Voor veel Lembeekenaars is deelnemen een familie-erfenis: vaders geven de traditie door aan hun zonen. De trommen, de vendels en de statige uniformen zorgen voor een trotse, bijna militaire uitstraling, waardoor de mars ook een symbool van discipline, volharding en samenhorigheid is. De Sint-Veroonsmars gaat terug tot minstens de 17e eeuw, toen de processie voor het eerst vermeld wordt in geschreven bronnen. Waarschijnlijk werd ze nog vroeger in het leven geroepen, na de komst van de relieken in Lembeek. Door de eeuwen heen is de mars uitgegroeid tot een indrukwekkend evenement dat niet alleen religieus, maar ook cultureel erfgoed is geworden. Tegenwoordig trekt de mars nog steeds elk jaar duizenden toeschouwers. Voor deelnemers blijft het een intensieve maar eervolle tocht. De optocht combineert devotie en folklore, en vormt zo een uniek stukje levende traditie dat Lembeek op de kaart zet, niet alleen in Vlaams-Brabant maar ook ver daarbuiten.
