Add to basketBlack and white printed illustrated fan. A few tiny holes visible when held to the light but overall in very good condition. Measures 36.5 x 24cm when open. The fan, featuring an illustration of Soji-ji, the original headquarters temple of the Soto-shu in Ishikawa Prefecture, was most likely produced for fundraising efforts foll…owing a devastating fire that destroyed some of its main buildings in 1898. Despite efforts to reconstruct the lost buildings over several years, it was eventually decided to relocate the headquarters temple to Yokohama, a move completed in 1911. The fan depicts the original temple grounds, showcasing numerous buildings and landscapes, with the scale of each structure labeled on the left. It is probable that this fan was distributed to or given to those who contributed to the reconstruction project.
