Prosecuzione ideale degli Annali ecclesiastici del Vescovo Ricci, pubblicati a Firenze, furiono per tutto il primo periodo della repubblica ligure, l'organo di quella parte del clero che aderendo alle idee rivoluzionarie si oppose alla chiesa di Roma. Sino al febbraio del 1798 il foglio fu firmato da Giuseppe Poggi, ardente giansenista che passo' rapidamente al libero pensiero. A quel punto la firma in calce al giornale la mise Degola utilizzando il monogramma C.S.E.D.G. Piu' volte molte voci si alzarono contro gli eccessi di questo foglio che spesso sprono' il governo a perseguitare quella parte del clero non favorevole alla rivoluzione. Chiuso nel dicembre del '99 a causa della situazione contingente, il Degola tento' in seguito di far proseguire il suo ministero pubblicando altri fogli che, pero', ebbero vita assai breve proprio a causa dell'intervento del governo che intendeva favorire una diffusa riconciliazione a fronte dello scontro.
