First Edition. : Bonhoeffers visie op de kerk // Nu godsdienst en kerk naar het priv?-domein zijn verwezen, komt de vraag weer op of zij toch niet van betekenis zouden kunnen of moeten zijn voor het publieke leven. De godsdienstsocioloog Gerard Dekker gaat voor het beantwoorden van deze vraag te rade bij de Duitse theoloog en verzetsstrijder Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Die heeft immers duidelijk gesteld dat de kerk pas kerk is als zij er voor de anderen, voorde wereld is. Dekker constateert een grote kloof tussen wat Bonhoeffer voor ogen stond en de praktijk van de kerk vandaag. De auteur gaat achtereenvolgens na wat Bonhoeffer onder de wereld en onder religie verstaat, wat hij bedoelt met het christelijk geloof en wat zijn visie op de kerk is. Hierbij komt telkens de relatie tussen de kerk en de wereld ter sprake. Hoewel Bonhoeffer zelf met name in zijn gevangenisbrieven geen afgerond kerkbeeld heeft gegeven, probeert de auteur toch uit zijn gedachtegoed zich een zo duidelijk mogelijk beeld te vormen van wat Bonhoeffer heeft bedoeld. Daarna confronteert hij de visie van Bonhoeffer met het bestaande godsdienstig en kerkelijk leven. Hieruit valt een grote discrepantie te zien tussen de idee?n van Bonhoeffer over de betekenis van de kerk voor de wereld en de feitelijk bestaande kerkelijke situatie in Nederland. Dit laatste betekent niet dat Bonhoeffer ons niets meer te zeggen heeft. Integendeel. Ook nu kan de kerk van betekenis zijn voor het publieke leven. Maar daartoe is wel nodig dat de kerken zich bezinnen op hun eigen bestaan en bestaansrecht, alsmede op hun houding tegenover de wereld. In dit boek geeft Dekker uiteraard ook zijn eigen gedachten over de opstelling van de kerk in de huidige samenleving, die mede zijn ge?nspireerd door Bonhoeffers visie op de kerk.…
