Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Illustrated by Eugene Delacorix (illustrator). The first part of Goethe's tragic drama was published in 1808 and the secont part was finished in 1831 and published after his death in 1832. This edition is subtitled: "A Tragedy: In a modern translation by Alice Raphael." This book is beautifully bound in a full red leather binding with 22 kt gold spine and cover decorations. The spine has four raised bands with five decorated compartments. All edges are gilt, and the book has red silk moire end papers with a yellow silk ribbon bookmark. The pages are acid-free and they are smyth-sewn, not glued. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. There are no owner bookplates or owner names in the book.
