PRESENTATION COPY from Desor to his colleague on the Lake Superior land district survey, the Sturgis-Hooper professor geology at Harvard, Josiah D. Whitney (1819-96). A very good copy. The Swiss geologist, Desor, was associated in his early years with Louis Agassiz and followed him to the U.S. in 1846. Desor returned to Switzerland and 1852 to a professorship in geology at Neuchatel. In 1858 after his brother's death, Desor resigned from Neuchatel and resumed his original research interests including that of the geology of the Jura Mountains. D.S.B. 4: 73-74.
