Se trata más bien de una crítica desde el deismo. Fue autor también de una 'Théorie nouvelle des mouvemens variés' (Paris, 1784), de 'Discours de M. Desp*** sur le despotisme, et sur les moyens légitimes de le réprimer' (Troyes, 1789), de 'Dialogue entre un père et son fils, sur la révolution, sur les droits de l'homme et sur les principes de la Constitution' (Troyes, 1790), de un 'Précis de logique, ou les principes du raisonnement, simplifiés et réduits à la rigueur mathématique' (Troyes, 1790), y de la 'Nouvelle exposition des Principes du Calcul, que l'on appelle Infinitésimal' (Troyes, 1803). First edition of this uncommon examination of one of the more pernicious examples of the 'philosophisme' polluting the intellectual culture of the late eighteenth century, the La Philosophie de la Nature by Delisle de Sales, which had first appeared in 1778. The philosopher and mathematician Nicolas Desponts (born 1749) taught at the École centrale of the Aube département and at the college in Brienne, where the young Napoleon Bonaparte was among his pupils. In this work, he leaves the reader in no doubt of his view of the philosophical currents of the time: 'In reading this immense collection of incoherent chapters, which have been decorated with the glitzy title The Philosophy of Nature, I saw that it was a resumé of the most dangerous paradoxes which are found spread widely around the writings of our philosophists, and which our author [Delisle] has himself endeavoured to increase'. Following the structure of Delisle's work, and quoting extensively from it, Desponts attacks his target's approach to physics (motion, creation, and the origins of the universe), human biology (ranging from generation to hermaphroditism), psychology and the soul, ethics (from the principles of morality to suicide) and finally theology (the relation of God to humans, the divine attributes, the possibility of miracles, and the nature of heaven, hell, angels, and devils). OCLC records three copies, at Chicago, Cambridge, and the BnF.

Troisième édition, après celles de 1641 et 1644, mais la s…econde imprimée à Grenoble (celle de 1641 porte l'adresse de Paris). Elle ne comporte plus l'habile dédicace à Richelieu de l'originale (7 pp. liminaires), ni au demeurant la traduction en français de la Charte. En revanche, et logiquement, on y trouvera la Confirmation des privileges du Briançonnois, accordez par le Roy Louys XIV. (heureusement regnant.), qui venait d'être accordée aux Briançonnais après la montée sur le trône de ce jeune souverain. On donnera encore de ce texte fondateur des éditions tardives en 1780 et 1788, au moment du réveil du sentiment particulariste dauphinois.Le nom du compilateur, Claude Desponts (1606-1681), procureur du Roi dans le bailliage du Briançonnais, figure dans l'originale, mais n'est pas repris dans les éditions grenobloises.Ce texte est des plus importants pour le Briançonnais : il constitue la charte des franchises et libertés concédées par le Dauphin Humbert II (1312-1355) aux communautés briançonnaises le 29 mai 1343, et partie intégrante des conditions du transfert du Dauphiné aux fils aînés des Rois de France (Traité de Romans et Statut delphinal du 30 mars 1349). Il donna notamment naissance à l'institution très particulière des Escartons. L'égalité du statut oùtous les habitants étaient francs-bourgeois et égaux devant le Dauphin, l'autonomie du Briançonnais dans sa gestion, en particulier pour la répartition de l'impôt, conduisirentà considérer cette région comme une petite république montagnarde, très indépendante dans les faits. Malgré tout, ce statut privilégié a souvent fait l'objet d'empiétements de la part des pouvoirs successifs, malgré la confirmation et la ratification de cette charte à chaque changement de Dauphin. Suite à l'institution d'une nouvelle taxe en novembre 1640, les autorités locales jugèrent ainsi nécessairede lui donner l'avantage d'une impression, avec de nombreux documents annexes, pour donner encore plus de poids et de publicité à ces conventions particulières du Briançonnais. L'appel à la bienveillance de Richelieu ne dut pas être sans effet sur les arrêts successifs du Conseil d'Etat du Roi (9 juillet et 18 décembre 1642, 12 octobre 1644), qui accordèrent substantiellement raison aux Briançonnais sur l'exemption des taxes nouvelles qu'on voulait leur imposer.Maignien, L'Imprimerie, les libraires et les imprimeurs à Grenoble, 295 (cf. aussi 289).
