The coutume of the duchy of Burgundy in eastern France, which governed five baillages, was codified in 1459 and reformed in 1575. This edition of the coutume was compiled by Jean Bouhier, an eminent French magistrate and the first president of the parlement of Burgundy from 1704-1729. The annotations to our copy include many references to Bouhier's other works. The annotator also takes an interest in passages discussing the scope of customary law and makes notes on such topics as succession and family law. OCLC locates 5 copies in North American law libraries (Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, George Washington University, Columbia University, Northwestern University). Gouron and Terrin, Bi.
