The results of these experiments were then used to develop a method for testing the resolution of small telescopes which could be used to determine the quality of a telescope's objective and ocular. The book concludes that a telescope's resolution is limited either by the resolution of the objective or by the resolution of the eye in conjunction with the ocular, and that the best size for a surveyor's telescope is the smallest that will just meet his requirements.
