Add to basket2013 1st edition soft cover volume in near fine condition, with very minor wear to the front corners. Otherwise very bright tight and clean - 146 pp beautifully illustrated on glossy art paper. The bilingual Welsh/English book tells the mid-19th century story of the relationships between Margaret, her husband and the famous sculptor North Wales John Gibson in their own words, using letters, diaries and poetry. Gibson, one of Britain's best-known sculptors during the period, created statues based on her poems and she would also write verse inspired by his creations. The book takes the form of a meandering pilgrimage to Hafodunos, Margaret's beautiful but derelict North Wales home. The sculpture gallery she inspired there is under ongoing restoration, following a fire that threatened to obliterate her greatest legacy. Nature, mythology and death dominated her work and she was a rising star of the Welsh literary scene who was courted by the glitterati before her career was cut short by breast cancer in 1852 at the age of 40, following a 14 year battle against the condition.
