First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Harry O. Diamond (illustrator). 1st Edition. First Edition. Lacking the dust jacket. 285 pages. Index. Glossary. Illustrated. Good working copy. Worn edges. The following is the review by Robert Hood, NYT, date July 26, 1959. "TURN boys into chefs? The husband-and-wife culinary team, claim it can be done and in "The Boys' Cook Book" they dish up a course in cookery that includes every- thing from soups to desserts. To help the young cook find his way down the menu, Helen and Philip Brown include a glossary of cooking terms. There are practical tips throughout and especially good sections on snacks and sandwiches and beverages. But some of the recipes are so involved, with so many ingredients and fancy herbs, that they may drive frys away from the kitchen range. The Browns stress kitchen cookery, and the outdoor chef is pretty much left out in the cold. Missing from the book also are menus and the kind of directions which show young beginners how to plan and prepare a complete meal. This is a good book for a teen-ager who is interested in cooking and has had some ex- perience with cuisine, but it is too advanced for the young novice. It is clearly written, although suffering from cute phrasing in spots. ROBERT HOOD.".
